Look up equipment serial numbers and product recalls
Identify equipment from a serial number or label photo, check CPSC recalls, and pin a recall to a report section.
Serial Number Lookup
Identify the make, model and manufacture date of water heaters, air handlers, condensers and appliances.
- Open Serial Number Lookup from the AI Lab or from the report writer's tools menu.
- Enter the serial number. Dashes and spaces aren't needed. Or choose Take Photo or Upload Photo of the data plate.
- Optionally narrow the search by manufacturer, brand or equipment type.
- Run the lookup.
The lookup uses the InspectionPress equipment decoder database with OCR and image recognition. Always compare the result with the data plate, especially the manufacture date you report.
Recall Check
- Open Recall Checker and enter the model number, or take or upload a photo of the label.
- Choose Lookup Recall. The CPSC recall registry is searched live by model number.
- Matching recalls show the hazard, remedy and manufacturer contact information.
When you photograph a label, the image is sent to an AI provider to read the model number before the recall search runs.
Pin a recall to a report
Open the Recall Checker from a section in the report writer, pick the recall, and choose where to place it: above the Information, Limitations or Observations area. The recall is saved as a read-only snapshot in that section.
Treat matches as leads
A model-number match doesn't confirm a recall applies. Many recalls cover specific serial ranges or dates. Confirm with the manufacturer before telling a client a unit is recalled. A failed or empty search doesn't mean there's no recall.
