A lookup failed or shows an error

What to do when ASCE, AI, permit research or report preparation shows an error instead of a result.

Several tools depend on outside services. Sometimes those services are slow or unavailable. An error is different from an empty result: it means the search didn't finish.

ASCE wind region lookup

If the report card shows an ASCE error, no automatic retry is made. Choose the region manually in section 2 of the Wind Mitigation writer after checking the design wind speed. Report the error so we can review it. See ASCE wind region lookup.

AI Lab

  • If a request takes a long time, keep the window open until the result saves.
  • If you see a "too many attempts" message, wait a few minutes before trying again.
  • If a request fails, check your remaining AI requests before retrying, and report repeated failures.

Report preparation

If a report card shows Retry Preparation, choose it once and wait. If it fails again, report the problem rather than retrying repeatedly.

Permit and property research

Open the Property Status panel. If a research source shows as failed rather than completed, contact support with the property address. Meanwhile, use the Jurisdictions tab to check records directly.

Never report an error as a finding

A failed lookup isn't evidence of anything. Don't write "no permits" or "no recalls" because a search failed or timed out.

Sample property

Many of these tools are turned off on the sample property and show an error or a "not available for a sample property" message. That's expected.

Verify property records and professional requirements with the appropriate official source.More in Troubleshooting & Support
